Good Day, JG Families!
The last week of school is finally upon us, and, WOW, what a year it has been. From kicking off our first non-profit fund raiser, to Book Drive success, to welcoming a new classroom and property, to our amazing House Mamas and parent support, to our weekly Spanish, Music and Yoga Classes, and, finally, to growing our team and seeing these children thrive each day from the efforts of our amazing community. We are setting a foundation for their future as we launch plans for our Elementary Program starting Fall 2019.
In the Classroom 🏡
Studies now show moving schools during a child's formative years can have an impact on their academic and social performances. Although some moves cannot be avoided, experts are encouraging parents to limit in-town program moves, declaring that it takes significant time and effort for a child to adjust to new routines and environments. A study done in 2016 “suggests that schools may be vital in stabilising the lives of children while growing up, confirming the need for stability and consistency in childhood”**. With the addition of our 6-9 program at Julia’s Garden, we are pleased to offer our children an inclusive, diversified, low-ratio program with a high standard of academic excellence that they can remain in through their 3rd grade year.

We are filming a promotional video this week that will launch a scholarship campaign offering tuition assistance to neighborhood children. This project will help further diversify our student body and allow us to welcome families from multiple socio-economic backgrounds. We are exited for this venture, and thank the Aquilia Foundation for their guidance on this project.
The cucumbers, squash and dewberries are all ripe for the picking! Our videographer, Danny Bravens, will be filming Main House kiddos harvesting this colorful bounty. Last week, Casa kids went to town cooking up a storm with these yummy ingredients: they pickled cucs and radishes and made yummy zucchini muffins. What a fantastic way to welcome the summer harvest!
Violet’s birthday was a super-fun day in Casa last week, and Ezra’s birthday circle in the Main House will be take place before our last day of school. The Book Drive Winning Teams YCC & Hay House celebrated their victory at El Mercado with fun in the sun, sippin’ libations, and munching on Mexican snacks. Our staff appreciation dinner was a magical night of love and appreciation as we bid a tearful good-bye to our wonderful teacher and co-working, Ms. Lindsay. What a great way to end 2 years of dedication to our school: we love you Ms. Lindsay!!
Our end of year celebration is this Thursday, May 24th at 12 NOON. Parents, please arrive at the gates of 1700 and 1702 S. 3rd Street and we will show you to your seat in the Casetta. There will be some adult chairs available but come prepared to sit on the floor if you are able. The children will arrive at 12:10 and sit with their classes. They have practiced giving the “I love you” sign to you from across the room and we ask that you recognize their efforts by waving back but remaining in your seats. After the celebration, you and your child may move over to the Pavilion and either share a sack lunch on the picnic tables or enjoy lunch later off campus. The grounds will be open for touring from 1:00 - 1:30 but we ask that your child refrain from using the playscapes during this time. With the large number of children and siblings expected on campus we are unable to make the play areas safely available.

Julia's Garden Montessori 🌸
“I did not invent a method of education. I simply gave some little children a chance to live.” - Maria Montessori
Violet slices zucchini and Orion mixes the pieces in for garden empanada making last week in the Hay House. Liam samples the results and Senna washes up at the Hand Washing Table.
Outside fun! Senna and Liam snuggle Butterscotch then both YCC and Hay House take a ride on their “boat” - whee! Sloane finds berries ripe on the vine then collected eggs for tomorrow’s snack.
Harvesting cucumbers, turnips and zucchinis for baking and pickling in Casa.
Violet’s 4th birthday celebration was fun for all - Happy 4th Birthday, Violet!!
William waits patiently to deliver stargazers to his teachers; Ruairdh works with the Brown Stair and Pink Tower and Ellis sews a wallet for her sister during the Work Period. Theodora enjoys peeling bananas for Snack Time and Chris strings a handmade suncatcher for his Mother’s Day gift.
Mrs. Meagan assists the children labeling flowers in cursive; Aspen and Lana enjoys Easel Work and William showcases his own art formation.
Fiona works on matching the insects to their proper names in a pre-reading lesson; Ms. Lindsay and Nixon read a book together while Theodora helps to keep the shoe shelf tidy. The children get ready to practice their special performances in the Casetta … what a show we have in store!
