Julia's Garden Announcements ?: Shelter Ordinance Lifts in Texas this Friday, Summer School Update, Yearbooks and End of Year Item Collections

4/29/2020

Good day, JG Community!

As you might already know, we Texans received some good news on Monday: Governor Abbott announced that our state will open up again starting this Friday, May 1st.  In his speech, he included the opening of summer camps as a priority and government officials should be making recommendations soon. We will continue to update you via email and on the Parent Portal as more information becomes available.

Although our state is opening up, the order that Texas school campuses are to be closed is in place for the duration of the semester.  While we are sad that we cannot gather, distance learning, Zoom calls and video chat supports are all still available to each of you.  We also have a podcast that you can tune into for parenting re-boot from one of our past parent ed talks.

Ms. Danielle and Ms. Hedda are preparing you child’s personal items to be returned to you.  Be on the lookout for an email from one of them on how the procedure will look in the coming weeks.

We miss each you and look forward to the day when we will see each other again, live and in person.  In the interim, our goal of having a school year book this year will become a reality after all!  As a gift of gratitude to you and your child, Julia’s Garden will mail you a 2019/2020 yearbook at the semester’s end.  We hope you will enjoy this keepsake over the summer and for years to come ❤️.

Most sincerely,

Katherine

Julia's Garden Newsletter ?: School Closed Per City Shelter Regulations Until April 13th, Distance Learning Survey, 2020/2021 Tuition Relief and More Ways to Stay Safe During COVID-19

3/28/2020

Dear Community,
I hope this note finds you and your family well today. I am writing to provide a COVID-19 update that affects our community. I know you are concerned, and so am I, so I wanted to make sure we shared some helpful reminders on how you can keep safe, as well as updates on what we are doing to support your family, as we continue to maneuver through this experience together.
Campus Closed Until April 13th
In response to the Stay Home/Work Safe Order issued by the City of Austin and Travis county, Julia’s Garden will be closed through April 13. Even though our school is not open, we are facilitating continuous learning opportunities for our students. JG staff and families should prepare for schools to be closed for a longer period of time.
Distance Learning

Families are encouraged to connect with their guide(s) for instructional activities to use while at home. These activities are designed to keep up learning and can be used as a resource for our families. These resources will continue to be available until our campus can re-open safely.
Remember, you are your child’s best teacher.  Education is a partnership and this is an opportunity to connect with your child, discovering his/her skills and building a foundation that will last for months, even years, to come.  This time together, although undeniably stressful, can be also be precious.
Organic Eats for Kids
Lena is cooking up yummy family-style meals for the whole family to enjoy!  Email her at lena@eatsforkids.com to take a break from daily cooking and enjoy a healthy meal delivered to your doorstep.  This is a wonderful opportunity to support a local business that has done so much for our community.
Financial Assistance for the 2020/2021 School Year

We will continue to offer resources and support to you through learning from home. And, while we are not able to offer refunds, we understand this situation is impacting our families.  Julia’s Garden Montessori has collaborated with the Julia’s Garden Fund to find a way to respond to the needs of the community. Moving forward, we are offering $30,000 in tuition assistance to families for the 2020/2021 school year.

What this means for you: By request, a 5 - 10% discount is available for 2020/2021 tuition to each enrolled family. Priority will be given to returning families but funding may be available for new families.  We will know more as more resources become available what we can offer and will consider every request.  We want to work with you.  If you are able to pay the full tuition price, or have already accepted a scholarship from the fund, we kindly ask that you pass that savings onto another family.  We are all in this together and every little bit helps.

Our programming starts with your family: a family that choose us above all other programs to be the one to love, educate and care for your child during his/her formative years.  We are 100% committed to seeing this through.  Let’s help one another see the other side of this.
Tips and Reminders for Staying Safe and Healthy
Above all else, be safe, and take this quarantine seriously.  Without health, we have nothing.
The best way to lessen the effects of COVID-19 in our community is to:
  • Reduce our social interactions by 90 percent. This is the only way we know of that will keep the risk of exposure to this disease down.  This means staying away from neighbors, this means going to the grocery store as infrequently as possible and keeping people that are not your immediate family out of your home.  We have to take this seriously, our lives depend on it.
  • Practice social distancing: maintain a safe distance of 6 feet (approximately 2 meters) from others at all times.
  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.  If no sanitizer is available you can make some at home.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid any contact with people who are sick and ask people if they have felt ill before any interaction. It’s not rude to do this, it protects you and your family’s health.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with the inside of the elbow when coughing or sneezing.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently-touched objects and surfaces.
  • Leave items, like mail or packages that are not perishable, alone for 72 hours before touching to be sure there has been time for any virus particles to die.
  • Wear disposable gloves when handling items that have not been in your home for less than 72 hours.
  • Eat a balanced meal high in Vitamin C and consider zinc supplements.
  • Take your shoes off before you enter your home after leaving the house; the bottoms of your shoes can transfer virus particles into your home. It is recommended to leave shoes outside for 72 hours after going to a public place.
Thank you for the innovation and flexibility you have shown during this time. You are a valued part of our family.

In gratitude,

Katherine Parlette Hunter

1/12/2020

Greetings, Garden Families!

We are back from break and loving this beautiful weather. I am excited to announce that our first child-harvested, child washed garden greens went into Wednesday’s meal from Lena’s Lunches! The full cycle from seed to stew was achieved with the help of everyone on campus: parents, teachers, committee members, students and, of course, Ms. Lena!  It has been a dream come true to use our own harvest in these lunches, thank you again to Eats for Kids, as well as to all of you, for your support.  We look forward to many more JG harvested meals this semester!

Summer School 🌞
Early Bird Enrollment for Summer School begins this week.  The link to enroll will be live on the Parent Portal and you will receive a flier with details on times/dates and tuition costs.  This year’s enrollment will be for a summer semester that extends from June 15th - August 13th with 2 and 4 day options.  Returning JG students have between January 13th and February 17th to secure their spots; after this period, enrollment is open to the greater community.  We hope to see everyone back for another super-fun summer of learning, growing and playing together in the Garden!

Peanut & Cinnamon-Free Campus 🥜❌
Two students in our Primary Community have food allergies that require epipen treatments.  Since Primary children travel regularly on campus, the safest choice for our community is to be Peanut and Cinnamon-Free.  Refrain from packing snacks or lunches that contain these ingredients.  If you have any questions about what is safe to send in your child’s lunch, contact admin@juliasgardenmontessori.com. We thank you for help keeping our students safe.

Community Singalongs 🎶
We are inviting parents from each level classroom into Casetta on Thursday mornings at 9:00 AM to help us sing our favorite Julia’s Garden tunes!  After taking the month of January to practice, each classroom will offer 1 - 2 invitations per family in a rotation to join us in song. The parent invitation schedule for spring semester singalongs is below, mark your calendars and expect to hear more from your child’s lead guide about the event closer to your community’s assigned day.  We look forward to sharing one of our favorite JG weekly rituals with you!

Greetings, Families!

The fall weather is finally upon us and we are looking forward to cooler days. Mr. Jeronimo and the children continue to water the garden daily and our little greens are starting to sprout.  Yay for fall!

W. Milton Construction 🚧
The city has completed its construction project on W. Milton and we can return to our regular established parking system. Please drive up South 2nd Street and park in the first available street parking space you see on West Milton. Walk or carry your child, either holding hands or in a stroller/carrier,  to campus and until he/she is collected by a guide.  Refrain from parking on S. 3rd in order for us to maintain a positive relationship with our neighbors. Parking spots in front of the school and in the driveways are reserved for staff members.

Please exit to the right (north) when leaving W. Milton and always park in the direction of the traffic, leaving plenty of space (at least one meter on each side) of our neighbor’s driveways.  As always, thank you for your continued cooperation with parking.

Accreditation! 📜
Julia’s Garden Montessori is officially accredited!  We were presented with our accreditation from ICARE (International Council for Accrediting Relationship-based Education) on Monday, October 14th, 2019. Julia’s Garden is the first school to be presented with this prestigious award from ICARE and we could not be more grateful to our parent and staff community for their participation throughout this process. Now, on to the next one!

Wow!!  We will be awarded our accreditation from ICARE next Monday, October 14th during our CD Day.  Additionally, our TAAPS accreditation visits will be completed by mid-November.  These are exciting steps for our school and we are grateful for our entire parent and staff community for offering their time to help us achieve this goal.
