At the Julia's Garden School, we are proud to offer a culturally diverse and inclusive community. Over 1/4 of our staff and student population comes from a diversified background representing 8+ countries, nationalities races and religions. We also offer Spanish daily (at the IC and Elementary levels) and weekly for our Primary students, as well as weekly Mandarin lessons from Cool Panda.
Starting at the Primary Level, our curriculum parallels experiences children have at home by representing them in the classroom. A child whose family celebrates a culturally diverse holiday may be asked to introduce that at-home practice by inviting a family member into the class to make a presentation. This presentation could be accompanied by songs, books, costumes, food and/or shrines and keepsakes that the children participate in. At the Elementary level, students assume a more in-depth role of cultural exploration by incorporating a unit on a country or cultural with a Field Day Study excursion to complement their research. At the Infant (IC) level, books and language work are changed out to reflect cultural or seasonal celebrations in the home and one guide speaks and sings to the children only in her native Spanish tongue while the other speaks in English to support an immersion experience.
